My Project

Teaching American Sign Language (ASL) is a transformative opportunity for our female minority students. ASL not only enhances communication skills but also fosters inclusivity and cultural awareness on the worldwide scale. To make this learning experience impactful, I want to create a space where students cannot only practice signing in an immersive environment where they feel safe, but also feel comfortable to learn about the culture, customs, and deaf world that comes with the language.

I am asking for lighting, pillows, and plant supplies to make my classroom a place that not only enhances comfort but encourages collaboration among my girls.

These resources will help support the engaging, hands-on learning needed for this visual and tactile language allowing students to come to class and be comfortable with learning something so completely new. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them a more comfortable learning environment, thus increasing their comfort to ask questions, share thoughts, engage, etc. The goal remains, to create a classroom where the girls feel the sense of community they are learning about, in our very own ASL corner.
