This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What I love about my students is they're as charming and playful as a pack of puppies. They're so full of potential and ever hopeful in these trying times of this pandemic that it warms my heart, as an alumni, to see how far our community has developed. Even though our gym space is extremely limited and we don't have a lot of equipment we endure and make the most of it like a flower blooming in the slums.

A lot of our students come from immigrant backgrounds and "making the most of it" has become part of their culture.

In the last several years our students have done some amazing things with minimal equipment. These kids deserve so much more than what is being offered that I'm curious to see how much more they could do in a proper PE class.

My Project

The pandemic has been hard on everyone and it's been especially hard for my PE students who have been needing to properly vent themselves in my class. The biggest problem has been needing an actual gymnasium to play games, exercise and be as loud as they want to be without having to disturb other classes. I'm hoping to relieve the stress and pressures my students are facing by giving them some equipment to make up for that lack of our own play area. My students and I have had enough experience making the most of the weather and taking PE outside. The proof is shown in how worn out our old hand me downs have gotten and it's time to give our students new equipment to go along with the new school we moved into. My ultimate goal is to provide my students with an exceptional PE class in which they learn team building skills and to appreciate new equipment.
