This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at our school are amazing. We are one of the top Title I schools in our county; scoring a continuous A or B for the last 10+ years. Our students and parents highly value education and it shows in all our students achieve.
Our school is composed of 87% Hispanic, 2.6% African American, and 1.2% Asian.
The majority of our students originate from Spanish speaking countries, primarily Cuba. 91.3% of our students are on free or reduced price lunch.
Our school environment is one where students feel safe, valued, and cared for. We pride ourselves with making our students feel at home away from home.
My Project
My Project
My students are a group of self-driven, highly motivated students.
Unfortunately, there are moments this drive is interrupted by student desks that are unsafe due to missing bolts. Multiple times since my students were displaced due to Hurricane Maria this school year I have had students come up to me with loose bolts in their hands and the desks falling over.
If my students had safe desks to work at this would improve their learning and school life tremendously.
They would be able to do their classwork and collaborate with with their peers without the fear of desks falling over. I truly believe I would see an improvement in their academics as well because the disruption of a falling desk would no longer interfere with whatever task they have at hand.
More than half of students from low‑income households
