Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

 As a Special Education teacher, I always seek ways to engage and inspire my students. I've recently considered purchasing supplies to keep my classroom organized and safe. Throughout the day, students are given time to work independently. One place every student loves to sit is at my desk. Because of this, I have offered my desk as an incentive for doing homework. If students do their homework, their name is entered into a raffle. I pick a name each day, and that student can sit at my desk during independent work. However, my desk is over 20 years old and is not in great shape. I prefer students to have a safe space to work.

In addition, I encourage students to be responsible for their work.

I do this by having a folder for each student to keep completed work and assignments. I currently use crates and folders, but a filing cabinet with hanging folders would be a better option. This way, students can independently put work they are proud of in their hanging folders. I would also like to provide students with pencils, colored pencils, pens, tape, and other supplies at their disposal. A rotating supply holder would make it easier for students to choose what they need and return to their seats. Any contribution, big or small, will be a step towards enriching our classroom experience.
