Help me give my students materials to enhance safety while learning, and reinforce cohesion and consistency between in-school and at-home learners by providing us with magnetic shapes, journals, and more.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students live in a low-income high-needs urban community, which I have loved serving for the past 15 years. We are a Title I school, where 100% of our students receive free lunch. This is a community that has endured the worst that poverty and violence have to offer but continues to overcome every challenge by rebuilding and transforming their neighborhood. This resilience and enthusiasm are reflected in our children.
My students come from diverse backgrounds, and all arrive in my classroom eager to learn, to succeed, and to feel safe and loved.
My goal as their teacher is to make sure these needs are met every day. I want to provide them with every opportunity afforded to others. I hope you will join me!
My Project
This year our class is divided between in-school and at-home learners, and right in line with just about everything in the world around us, our learning environment has changed drastically, as have our needs for teaching and learning.
As we prepare to embark on a year of learning unlike any other, it is my greatest hope that I can make high-quality instruction available to all of my students, both in school and at home.
Sight Word and Writing journals, which can be used by both distance and in-person learners, can ensure equitable access to materials, and allow at home students to easily move along with the pace of instruction. Write & wipe boards, along with markers, can also be sent home so all students are able to participate and respond at home, while in school each student safely has access to their own individual tools. Sadly, since shared surfaces and materials are off-limits for now, the classroom walls have become our instructional space. Hooks and magnets are now essential in order to give students access to materials in a new way.
Thank you for your support as we adapt to learning safely in this very different world!
