Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Transitional Kindergarten is very special because it helps prepare students to be successful in Kindergarten. They arrive at school excited and ready to learn. However, many times they lack basic essentials. Many of my students and their families have fled their home countries in order to pursue a better life. Once they arrive, they live in high-poverty, violent neighborhoods with very few resources. Parents have had little to no education themselves. My school has a growing population that speaks a Mayan dialect. These students are working on mastering three languages. Due to parents speaking another language and social/cultural norms being different they experience the school setting at a higher rigor. Despite these challenges, parents push their kids to succeed at school because they want a better life for them.
My students carry the great responsibility of being the hope for their families.
They hope that through their education they will be successful individuals that will give back to their community.
My Project
The face shield hats will help students and staff stay safe and healthy when we return to in-person teaching. These hats will also be comfortable to wear instead of some elastic headband that might irritate the children.
TK students are young and will need as much help as possible to make sure that they stay healthy at school.
These face shield hats help protect the children's faces from droplets that can possibly contain Covid-19. Given that these droplets can enter through someone's eyes it is extremely important to protect the children's entire face.
