My Students
My students are adorable, sweet, and kind to each other. They face great challenges outside of the classroom. We create a safe, fun, and empowering classroom for our students to thrive in all areas of their life.
Our school is located in the inner city with underprivileged families striving for a better life.
Single parents, grandparents, and older siblings continue to do their very best to instill a better way of living for their families. They face many challenges, but that doesn't impede them from wanting to learn or stop them from dreaming big.
We are 95% African American, 2% Haitian American, 2% Hispanic and 1% Caucasian, with 97% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch.
Teachers create a safe, fun, and empowering classroom for our students to help them thrive in all areas of their lives. I love my students and spend most of my out-of-the-classroom time developing projects to enhance their learning and well-being.
My Project
Pre-K students are exploring their world and learning by interacting. Their discovery mentality is beyond exciting. The majority of my students come from socioeconomically disadvantaged families, and I want to provide them with whatever they need to be successful in school. Last year the paintbrushes were often ignored and before I noticed they were finger painting on their own, so now I am asking for finger paint. Using moldable sand is tremendous fun for the kids. They are able to create sandcastles INSIDE without worrying about sunburn! We have a late lunch so snacks are needed to fill hungry little tummies. The crepe paper and card stock will be used to create art projects for my little artists. We received a new snow cone machine funded by DonorsChoose.org so we need replacement syrup and paper straws that are good for the environment. We enjoy our snow cones during celebrations and as rewards for accomplishments.
Teaching Pre-K is like trying to keep 100 ping pong balls underwater all at the same time with nonstop action, learning and growing!
In this action-oriented, hands-on process, our supplies get used up at a pretty good clip.These supplies will help us get through the first half of the school year.
