This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live in a small community in Northeast Alabama. 68% of students at my school receive free and reduced-price lunch. Even though many of our students live at or below the poverty line, students and teachers at my school work hard to bridge the achievement gap. Students receive an education full of rigor and receive quality instruction from a vast array of trained professional educators. Our high school is committed to helping our students become successful global citizens in the 21st century.
My Project
Reading this novel will help my students learn about a different form of government and economic theory. Even though the characters are mainly animals, it is easy to see the characteristics of the Russian Revolution in the novel. Having access to this book will help me improve the academic environment at my school. This novel is typically read during an English class, but I will be teaching it in a World History class. This helps my students to create a world view on forms of government and economic theories. Reading is an essential skill.
