Run/Walk Across America Challenge

Help me give my students each a reward to motivate them to walk or run across the country. For each half-mile, they walk/run they will receive a pony bead for their reward necklaces.

My Students

My students are attending a grade 3-5 public elementary school on the outskirts of Chattanooga TN. Students in my school vary in ability and are also very diverse. The kids that I teach love coming to school and many work hard to please their teachers. There are about 400-420 students that attend our school. Our teachers are constantly motivating our students to do their best and work together to help children to grow academically, emotionally, and physically. We are a Title One school and the students have varying economic needs. We receive very few funds for physical education and due to the economic needs of our students, I try not to ask for donations.

My Project

These items will be used as a form of encouragement for these elementary-aged students to live a more physically fit life. My hope is that these kids will be motivated to push themselves even harder to show off their accomplishments. I have selected a variety of beads so that all children will be able to find something that will encourage them. Every student will have the opportunity to earn the reward. This is not the only reward with the project it is just a portion that needs funding. Through this project, students will also have the opportunity to learn about the geography of the United States of America.
