Reading is such an integral part of the classroom. These books have been and will continue to be used on a weekly basis as part of our morning meeting process. Often, we read a book, discuss it, and then use what we learned from our discussion with an activity that will allow us to reinforce those skills. For example, before our Christmas break, we read \"Bubble Gum Brain: A Picture Book About Growth Mindset\" by Julia Cook. We discussed about how when times get tough, we have to keep a positive mindset and power through challenges. In order to help the students process what we read and our discussion, I then presented them with the paper chain challenge. In groups of 3, students were given 2 pieces of paper, a set amount of tape, 2 pairs of scissors, and then challenged to create the longest chain within a set time frame. The students were able to work together to solve problems like running out of supplies. These types of activities help my gifted students learn to deal with the big emotions that come with big challenges. Thank you again for your contributions.
