My Project
I work with a unique group of dedicated, caring and energetic students. My school is committed to providing our students with the best educational opportunities. I teach 7th grade Science in Bayside, NY. Many of my students are new to this country and speak a variety of different languages. Each student brings his or her own diverse background and experiences to the classroom. But the one thing they all have in common is their passion to learn.
But now we are looking to expand our students' social and emotional learning through a program that helps develop ability, confidence, and the desire to be physically active for life.
We have a runner's club. The program consists of games and activities that make it fun to learn. It will teach the fundamental movement skills at the heart of running and many other sports. Regular physical activity helps children maintain cardiorespiratory fitness, build strong bones and muscles and control weight. It also can reduce the risk of developing heart conditions, cancer, Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.
Our running club was so successfully last year. I had more students want to join then I had room for. So this year, I am looking to expand the club to allow more students. But more students will need more equipment to continue to build or strength and endurance. Running clubs good are great for students.
The requested materials will be used to support our running club. Research suggests that moving before and during school positively impacts learning, attention, and overall physical activity levels. In one study, before-school exercise programs increased activity and did not result in less activity the rest of the day.
