Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my Special Education students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences inside the classroom. This includes making their classroom space feel comfortable and well organized. My classroom is the special education generic classroom for grades first through third. My students come from different backgrounds and have a wide range of exceptionalities.
My Project
My classroom is filled with different types of learners who need materials that will last. My students enjoy computer time, but sometimes hands fidget so much that our headphones do not last. My students need headphones that work and can follow their movement. My students watch videos on starfall, learn how to add on mathplayground and learn to read on Lexia. But, in order to do all those things they must have headphones that will work.
My students are also very active.
I teach students with multiple disabilities including Autism, Down Syndrome, Intellectual Disability, ADHD and learning disabilities. These students need a space wear they can jump around. My classroom is not very large but having items I can move around will help. My students deserve a sensory area.
