This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My music class brings together students from all abilities, backgrounds, beliefs and cultures. These students include those with special needs and accommodations, English language learners, those who are residents, and those from out-of-state. Finding ways to bring these students together is something that I continually strive for everyday.

These drums will provide my students with limitless opportunities to create and explore who they are in ways that go beyond speaking, reading, and writing.

One goal for my students is for them to learn how to improvise and compose an original song. They will do this through first creating an original rhythm pattern and/or musical phrase, and then they will continually build onto that. Selecting themes and topics that interest them is another goal, and allowing adequate time to compose their song is essential. Finally, another goal is for them to be able to share their song with others in a meaningful manner. By creating a safe and nurturing environment, it is my hope that students will realize their potential and be able to express themselves through music, and will extend into anything that put their mind to later on.
