This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My kindergarten class has 25 bright and energetic students. The children in my class are between the ages of four and six. Our school is a Title 1 school. Eighty five percent of the students in my school receive free lunch and new materials are hard to come by.
I currently have a small and dingy rug in my classroom. When all of the students sit on it they annoy and distract each other because they must sit so close to each other. To compensate for its size several students have to sit on carpet samples around the rug and this can be hazardous. Kindergrtners have many types of accidents on the rug that make it a dirt and germ collector. I have sent it out to rug cleaners to get it steam cleaned but it is still dirty afterward.
We need a new rug that is bigger then the one we have. This new rug will help the students manage their own behavior while sitting there. It will also help prevent students from getting sick from the germs and dust in the old rug.
Your help will ensure that my students will have a clean place to stay while they are sitting and focusing on read-alouds and other classroom lessons.
