This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

As students of an academy/magnet program, they are held to very high standards. Also, as gifted students, they are held to individualized standards and expectations that are beyond amazing to see them accomplish. Teaching the accelerated students is very interested, as each of them has unique learning abilities and unique strengths. I love that I am able to take their uniqueness and further education based on that. Each of them has something different they bring to the table, which makes each lesson creative. There is never a dull moment in the classroom because we talk about many different subjects and across many different grade levels.

My Project

While the students gather materials from home and other places to construct large Rube Goldberg contraptions, these activities give them a chance to practice and see examples of what a contraption should look like. It helps the student with coordinating different pieces to achieve one outcome. Building a simple machine takes much thought and trial and error. To keep the students from becoming frustrated, It will help them start small and work their way into a big project. It will also help to see if the activity is worth going bigger.
