Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Welcome to the jungle, the rain forest, the mountains, the seashore, and the dessert in our classroom! My third graders in East Palo Alto are studying different animal habitats and trying to explore the terrains of them as best they can. However, we're limited to worksheets and the art creations of our imaginations. While we manage to do wonders with these few resources, it would be great to experience living animals through videos, natural habitats, and vivid picture books. We request your help to get us swimming with real fish in the ocean, fluttering the wings of our imagination with real butterflies, watching a jungle cat creep through the jungle, and slithering along with a snake through the desert. A class aquarium, a butterfly atrium, habitat videos, and colorful animal picture books would bring us closer to experiencing the world not directly around us. Not only would these items bring us to greater understanding of the natural world, but we will gain a greater sense of how important it is to sustain these precious habitats for environmental as well as animal protection reasons. Thank you in advance for any support you can give us! Let us end with a big "Rrrrrrrr" from the jungle cat we hope visits our classroom soon!
