My Students
Second grade is such a wonderful year of learning. We have so many different types of learners with many different needs. I have had the privilege of teaching students with Autism, Gifted and Talented, students with ADHD, students who receive Speech and Language Services, and students who are considered typically developing. We have a diverse set of needs that need to be met every day.
My students have unique traits and backgrounds and when we come together they make our classroom feel like a family.
I am so excited for the learning that my students will show this year. They will learn to take time to do quality work and let their effort shine. These kids come from families who support and nurture their creative drive and give them the tools they need to be successful later in their education and life.
My Project
Our 2nd grade curriculum has us learn about Cinderella and folktales from diverse cultures, but it only includes two versions of the story. I want my students to expand their global perspectives and be able to compare and contrast Cinderella from several countries.
Students love fairy tales, and I want their reading to take them around the world as we study different versions of the story.
With our current curriculum, we only get to learn about two different cultures. If our standard is to learn from 'diverse cultures,' then I want to make sure that my students are getting a sampling of books from as many cultures as I can find.
Everyone dreams of being a prince or a princess when they're little. Wouldn't it be so special to see a Cinderella story of someone that looks just like you? I want all of my current and future students to have their own happily ever after that they can relate to.
