Have you ever been in a room with more than 20 second graders and asked them to sit quietly in their seats? Mission Impossible! Alternative seating is becoming more popular in elementary classrooms, and I am ready to implement it in my own classroom. It's not fair to students to be stuck sitting down all day other than for recess and a half hour of specials-- that's why I think Regency Stools are a necessary addition to our classroom. To lead a student to success, you must first meet them where they're at. A seven year old is not in a place where they can be comfortable in a hard, plastic chair all day long. Regency Stools give the kids the opportunity to move, get their wiggles out, and focus their energy on their school work. With these stools, students will not only be more engaged in class instruction, but they will also be developing core strength and proper posture as the stool allows them to sit in more natural ways. Every teacher knows that students struggle with their chairs and often demonstrate unsafe behaviors in them. Does the phrase, "Four on the floor," ring a bell? The Regency Stool would allow students to tip back safely in their seats, rather than prop their traditional chair back on two legs and risk hurting themselves or others. Regency Stools are a necessity at the primary level, and my second graders would be thrilled to have them in our class.
