Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach at a Title I school in an old neighborhood mostly inhabited by undocumented workers and their families.
We are an academically acceptable school with the expectation to be recognized this year. My students love music, and love to make music with xylophones.
My Project
Orff instruments are very versatile and can be adapted to the needs of the student. All students are free to participate in the activities at a level with which they feel comfortable. By providing a glockenspiel and a bass bar, more students will be able to participate in the music making process at once. As of now, we rotate and repeat 3 times. My goal is to have enough instruments so that all students may play at the same time. This will allow for greater understanding of the music and the ability to play more, not just repeat. The bass resonator bar will be extremely helpful to those students who are intimidated by regular xylophones, or lack the coordination necessary to play one. The one bar is struck repeatedly to the tempo, allowing students to participate at a level with which they feel comfortable. The bass bar also adds a deep bass "hum" to the music, adding to the aesthetic.
The Glockenspiel adds tone color on the other end of the spectrum.
Help us round out our instrumentation, and provide my students with 2 instruments to play.
By doing so, more students may participate in the music making process at the same time, allowing for greater understanding and appreciation for music.
