My Project
In today's world, we are bombarded with technology at every turn. People have lost the ability to hold appropriate conversations, explore the world outside of a screen, and connect with people in real-time. While we cannot completely avoid the changes that come with a classroom in the 21st century, we can choose to be intentional about teaching children proper ways to communicate and connect with the world around them.
This project will provide arts and crafts supplies, snacks, tissues and other materials for kits with activities and suggested ideas for healthy communication between parents and their children.
I have already had a generous donation of backpacks and books, and this grant will allow me to purchase materials that go along with the backpacks and books to make an even bigger impact. As the school counselor, I will be able to check out these backpacks with explicit conversation starters and follow up activities that will engage students in conversation and exploration outside of the world with screens.
When parents begin to understand and communicate with their children, the children will also benefit in life. They will be better equipped to pose questions, read interesting stories, and communicate in appropriate ways. While learning to adapt to life with technology is highly imperative for today's children, it is also important that they not lose the very essence of what it means to be human - communication and connection.
