This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Attending the Garden of English Summer Workshop will provide me with focused, high-impact professional development that directly supports my work as an AP English Literature teacher. This week-long training, led by experienced educators like Timm Freitas, Susan Barber, and Dr. Brandon Abdon, is specifically designed to deepen my understanding of the AP Literature course framework and improve my instructional practices.

Through this workshop, I will:

Gain clarity and confidence in aligning my instruction with the College Board’s AP Lit framework, ensuring that my students are well-prepared for both the course and the exam.

Learn to develop and implement scaffolded strategies that support students at varying levels of proficiency in close reading, literary analysis, and timed writing.

Access engaging, high-quality resources, including a free AMSCO textbook and other instructional materials, that I can use immediately in my classroom.

Improve my ability to design and assess varied formative and summative assessments, giving students meaningful feedback and improving learning outcomes.

Strengthen my approach to equity in the classroom by learning how to create more inclusive lessons that meet the needs of all learners.

Collaborate with a network of other AP teachers, exchanging ideas, discussing challenges, and discovering effective practices that I can adapt to fit my teaching style.

Whether I choose the daytime or evening format, the combination of synchronous and asynchronous sessions will allow me to balance learning with my other responsibilities, while still engaging deeply with the content.

Ultimately, this workshop will help me become a more effective, confident, and student-centered AP English Literature teacher, better equipped to foster academic success for all of my students.
