My Students
My kindergarten and 1st grade students at this primary school love coming to Music class! We do all sorts of different things during the school year, from presenting grade level programs to playing instruments to exploring different ways of moving to participating in community events. My students enjoy having many opportunities to express themselves in creative ways.
My students really enjoy being able to spread out so they can explore their budding musicianship in their own personal spaces.
Having space to do that, while either standing or sitting, is crucial. I want all my students to be able to discover their capabilities without having to worry about being in someone else's space.
My Project
My K-1 students love to move and explore their rhythmic capabilities in Music class, but our current carpet does not give them much room to do so. Class sizes have continued to grow, so the carpet that once worked fine is now woefully inadequate!
With a larger carpet, students will have more room when they sit, stand, play instruments and move; they will not feel like they are sitting on top of each other.
The carpet is also a place where we learn about Music history, composers, and styles/genres of Music, and having enough room to spread out will give my students more room - and confidence - to express their creativity and curiosity about these subjects.
