Help me give my students wobble chairs and moveable desks to explore collaboratively in flexible groupings during STEAM/CS projects - or move the desk aside to have the space to dance the algorithm they have created.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
All SES students from K-5th Grade come to the Computer Science and STEAM lab for fun and engaging lessons that address multiple learning modalities and developmental stages. While first graders might design and then program a dance sequence, 4th and 5th graders are practicing their communication skills in partner coding and showing their understanding of other curriculum areas through phy-digital projects.... and of course, from time to time we are engaging in juicy science and engineering snacks where we e.g. explore how to construct the best ramp to launch race cars.
The tables and chairs I have selected are easy to move and will make it possible for my students to quickly adapt the classroom space to their needs and the needs of the activity.
Often a 5th grade class where students were working in groups of two is directly followed by a kindergarten group that needs a lot of floor space. Flexible seating will allow us to turn the STEAM lab quickly into a learning space for all the different age groups and activities.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
