"ÂÂThe more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." ~Dr. Seuss, I Can Read With My Eyes Shut! Truer words have not been spoke! Help us go places!
I work in a 100-year-old, neighborhood school.
My students and their families are racially and linguistically diverse and come from all different socioeconomic backgrounds. My first grade students come to school ready and excited to learn everything that they can.
My Project
Everyday my classroom engages in a 120 minute literacy block were we focus primary on getting our first grade students to become proficient readers. One element of the instruction is called guiding reading. During this time I will work with a small group of children to ensure that they are learning. I will check for fluency and comprehension. In order for this activity to be affect I need to be able to sit close to each student. This set up us this table allows for me to sit close to each student in the small group and be able to listen to them read.
This kidney shaped table will help me to fully engage with each student and let me know that I am interested in their reading.
Other tables do not allow for me to really hear and see each child's reading. Please help us have the best reading instruction in our first grade class!
