This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a new teacher, I knew what a Title I school meant on paper, but learning about my students throughout the year has opened my eyes to how much of a gap there is between our school/students to those in more affluent areas. My kiddos are fantastic, bright, and willing to learn every day! Each day I am empowered by them to be an inspiring teacher while creating a learning environment that they deserve to work in!

With every donated pencil, marker, or eraser, I am just one step closer to unlocking each student’s potential.

Supplies like markers and pencils are a lot for a classroom like mine, where students’ families have been so impacted by the pandemic and situations at home that prevent them from being able to contribute basic supplies to the classroom. Without materials such as these, our kids cannot focus on the priorities at school, which they have already had to put on the back burner because of COVID.

Moreover, the impact goes far beyond the tangible items. The gesture conveys a powerful message: we are dedicated to providing an education to all kids. Armed with the appropriate tools like these, students can actually participate in the learning process, rather than worrying about how they will be able to afford their needed materials for the day.

The markers are used to help engage all students in math. I let them use the markers and write on their actual desks. They think it is the coolest thing ever and are more willing and excited to learn and practice the skills being taught.
