This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students in my Chess Club are developing their cognitive skills while enjoying playing the game. Chess improves memory, develops strategic thinking, and encourages problem-solving. Chess encourages communication skills. It is a social game and helps students develop friendships, a sense of friendly competition, and confidence in sharing ideas. Chess provides so much to children. As one student put it, "Chess is life!"

My goals are to support my 6th,7th, and 8th graders develop their Chess-playing skills while providing an environment where they can enjoy their time together in the media center.

If students have the appropriate game boards and timers, they can truly feel that their club is important.

My students are thinkers. They want opportunities to challenge their intellect. Chess is the perfect way to do just that!
