My Students

Teaching ninth grade English for the past three years is always something I love to talk about. I love to talk about the 120 students I get to teach each day--they all individually possess intelligence and creativity and are always willing to learn and challenge themselves with new literature.

When my students step foot into my classroom they not only learn about a text, but they learn skills on how to prosper in life and plan for their future in order to be college and/or career ready.

One of the best parts of teaching ninth grade is that for the majority of my students, it is their first exposure to Shakespearean literature. The Shakespearean unit is when my students truly get to explore the world of literature and challenge themselves to think critically and creatively. Our Romeo and Juliet unit is always the one unit that they cannot wait to start and dislike when it is over.

My Project

My ninth grade students are currently about to embark on a new literacy journey and discover Shakespeare's stunning love story, Romeo and Juliet. In order to enhance their learning experience and engagement, I would like for my students to be able to not only read the text in class, but at home as well. The "No Fear Shakespeare" version of the text helps students comprehend the text and allows students to use reference materials to further support comprehension instead of asking the teacher or worse, falling behind and becoming frustrated.

By donating to my project, you will help my students have a meaningful and engaging experience by providing them with new copies of Romeo and Juliet.

There are currently not enough copies available for my students to have even in class. This donation would be beneficial to the learning process as my students will be able to read at home and contribute to meaningful and insightful classroom discussions the next day. I encourage my students to read at home daily for enjoyment, so this would truly be benefiting them in several ways.
