I teach Kindergarten through 3rd grade students with multiple exceptionalities, such as cerebral palsy, blindness, sensory processing disorder, developmental delays, and speech disorders. The majority of my students are non-verbal and non-ambulatory. They also are among the kindest, friendliest, most cheerful and capable individuals on our campus!
My students amaze me every day with their ability to learn and make connections despite the many obstacles they face.
With the right tools, adaptations, and sensory supports, they become engaged and active learners. My exceptional learners deserve to have access to quality curriculum just like their peers.
My Project
Our class is hoping to get the school year rolling with our very own Physio Roll therapy ball! Physical therapy is vital for my students with limited mobility. They would use this therapy ball daily to increase their balance skills and muscle tone.
Multi-sensory activities provide the best learning opportunities for my exceptional students.
Scented and tactile art materials, such as the textured finger paints, jingle bracelets, scented dough and markers, enable my students with visual impairments and sensory processing disorder to become full participants in fine motor classroom activities. The large pom-poms, Megability Beads, and beanbag turtles would serve as easily accessible, adaptive math manipulatives for our daily math and sensory centers.
