This fall, I’ll be entering my second year of teaching special education in a Title I school and want to create an environment and atmosphere where every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn. Many of my students will benefit from sensory materials and tools like fidgets, rubbing texture boards, and hands-on manipulatives. These materials will help students to regulate themselves across the school day.
Some of my goals for this project include a rotation of centers with sensory materials which will be integrated into the class schedule.
Students can interact with different textures and types of materials as they work on academic goals. Not only will this provide tactile and sensory input, but students can engage in parallel play as well.
