Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many of the students at my school are from low-income households and often lack the resources to purchase multiple coats and lunch boxes. Frequently, they come to school and struggle to stay focused because they are cold, hungry or they have lost an important item. Students are often concerned and distracted from learning because of their lost items. They are worried about the homework in their missing backpack, what they will eat for lunch, how cold it will be to play at recess, or how angry mom or dad will be when they find out they lost one more thing. We need to serve our students' basic needs to ensure they are ready to learn.
The rolling clothes rack and benches will ensure that found items are organized, visible, and easily accessible making it simple for students to find their lost treasures.
Currently, if a student loses their coat, sweater, water bottle, or lunch pail, it is thrown into a large unorganized pile or box. There are so many items in the pile that it becomes overwhelming for students to find what they are looking for so they give up. Also, the items are left exposed to the weather and often they become soiled and wet and then are thrown out. The clothes racks that I am requesting will be placed strategically on campus for students to find; at the front gate and on the playground. They are large enough and have a shelf to hang and organize the students' belongings. We will assign our student Safety Committee members to manage the racks. The flower pots and bench will be used to make the area inviting and pleasant. Let’s roll out a more organized and efficient way to manage lost and found, ensuring a cleaner environment and happier students!
