This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school library is a hub in our K-8 urban public school in Chicago, serving as a safe and welcoming space for students to explore new worlds, spark their imaginations, and develop a lifelong love of reading. To better serve our diverse student population, I am requesting a mobile book cart that will help us create a flexible, accessible space for middle school readers.

We need a mobile book cart to house our growing graphic novel collection.

Our middle school students are voracious readers and have a deep interest in young adult graphic novels. So much so that we've outgrown our graphic novel shelf!

Graphic novel stories resonate with student's experiences and offer them a unique way to engage with literature. They also aid in reading comprehension and often, especially for struggling readers, graphic novels add the extra support kids need to help them through a text. The combination of text and pictures can be particularly captivating, providing context for stories that kids might not understand otherwise. This cart will house a curated, diverse selection of graphic novels, giving our middle schoolers their own space to browse and explore titles that speak to their interests.
