My Project

In my bilingual kindergarten classroom, I am always looking for creative ways to bring literacy to life. One of the most effective ways to engage young learners is by combining storytelling with hands-on exploration. With your help, I’d love to introduce a new layer of interactive learning using the Sphero Indi Robotics Mat.

This mat works with our Indi robot cars and gives students a space to explore sequencing, directionality, and problem-solving, all while reinforcing literacy concepts.

As we build reading comprehension, we focus on retelling events in order, following directions, and using positional words. With the robotics mat, students will be able to create story paths that reflect the beginning, middle, and end of a book. They can also "code" their way through a story by selecting color-coded tiles that represent actions or scenes.

This activity helps strengthen listening comprehension, sequencing, vocabulary development, and even writing when students reflect on their robot’s journey. It also encourages collaboration and creative thinking, skills that are essential to literacy success.

For my bilingual learners, this approach reinforces both English and Spanish vocabulary as they describe actions, give directions, and retell their stories out loud. Using technology in literacy learning empowers students and gives them the chance to experience language in a fun, meaningful way.

With your support, we will create a space where students can read, write, retell, and explore stories—one robot journey at a time.
