This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are determined to succeed. They overcome tremendous obstacles just to show up for school each day. They come from a high poverty neighborhood in Pennsylvania. Our school is situated in a neighborhood plagued by violence. I teach grades Pre K - 8th grade, so my curriculum needs to be very diverse.
Many of the children we serve come from single-parent homes or are living with grandparents or even in foster care, but they show up ready to learn and determined to succeed.
My job is to help them reach that goal. I would love your support.
My Project
In our classroom we do small group instruction or SGI, which means students are in groups doing either teacher-led instruction or student-led instruction. A rolling chair will allow the person moving from group to group to slide back and forth to monitor or to help without disrupting the flow of the group. We would also benefit from flash drives for each student to share ideas via classroom computers or to take large files home before the are complete. Each student should have access to a flash drive that stays st school so they will have it when they need it.
