My Students

My school is a public school in Arkansas that has 515 students.

ELL, resource, self contained students and regular ed work together on projects throughout the day.

The kids in this school don't have the resources at home to learn coding so we must have multiple activities that teach and support these skills in our classrooms.

Sphero is one activity that allows students to independently practice the directional coding skills taught through interaction with Sphero. This not only teaches coding but also reinforces math, spelling, art, and writing directions.

My Project

Learning to code is an essential skill for our children to be successful in the future. Sphero is a fun, easy way to start! Students will use iPads to write codes for Sphero to follow! They are eager to bring their coding skills into real world situations. However, with limited resources and funding, this just isn't possible. We are hoping DonorsChoose can help us with this!

Sphero incorporates robotics and technology with collaborative STEAM activities, nurturing students’ imaginations and fostering important coding and other 21st century skills that are necessary in today's competitive job market.

These devices aren't only toys but represent obstacles found in the real world for coding. My students are more than ready to take their code and apply it to something that moves, flashes, and makes sounds based on their programs. They are so excited at the possibility to use the Sphero balls to navigate mazes and play games.
