My classroom is a hub for diversity, from students who have a military connection and have lived in a variety of places to those with a more poverty-type background, who may have never left the county. This is a multi-age classroom which includes a group of kindergartners and first graders.
And regardless of their background, each student comes in ready to learn!
They are amazing thinkers and risk-takers, coaches to each other, and learners. Giving them opportunities to be all of the above is my job. They are amazing!
My Project
I teach Kindergarten and First Grade, so I try to make many of my activities appeal to a variety of learners. I have students on various ability levels and creating a differentiated environment is my goal.
Creating stories through dramatic play is essential to great conversational skills and language development.
For my students to be able to use flannel boards to create their own stories, this will provide a creative outlet for those who love to talk, and give those who are quieter an opportunity to speak up!
I will be able to utilize this with math and writing as well to bring a more cross-curricular approach to learning in my classroom.
The differentiated instruction cubes also provide a way to provide a variety of learning opportunities for every student. I can differentiate among small groups through math games and they can create a story using characters and setting just by rolling a cube!
My first graders will love to be more hands-on with the base ten manipulatives. We use these when learning about place value and this will provide a great visual tool to use daily.
