My Students

Our classroom is full of 24 adorable 1st graders! Their needs and levels vary from being able to read on a 3rd-grade level to still learning letters and sounds. They work hard to progress in reading, math, science, and social studies. They develop strong friendships with each other and work hard every day.

My students have a passion for learning and ​excitement for school.

They amaze me with the progress they make. Our little classroom community is a simple, yet happy one!

My Project

It's no secret that the COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on children and families. I am hoping to use these materials to help provide intervention to some of my students who are struggling with foundational reading skills. One of the most crucial aspects of our day is the hour we do small group interventions. Students either work with me to practice reading skills, or engage in individual practice opportunities to help solidify their decoding.

These resources will be used to help engage students in powerful, meaningful opportunities to practice reading.

The magnetic tiles will be very helpful in working with students on building, sorting, and reading words with key phonics patterns. These tiles are referenced frequently in "the science of reading" as a tool that can be used to help struggling readers develop more fluency. The decoding cards will be a fun resource for students to work in pairs to practice reading words with phonics patterns we've learned. They will then be able to further practice those skills by reading sentences with those patterns. These resources will help us with our ultimate goal to become "rockstar readers".
