My Students

My students grow up in the heart of Waimanalo, located on the Windward side of Oahu, in the state of Hawaii. This place is a very close knit community. They come from struggling families, and they just need a lot of love! We work every day to be college ready, and prepare ourselves for the real world.

Our school is located in a predominately rural, low-income neighborhood with a considerable portion of the children of Hawaiian and/or Pacific Islander ancestry.

My Project

Rocks rock!!! These items will greatly enhance my rock labs.

Rocks and the rock cycle are important standards in 8th grade science.

These topics cover the entire quarter and spill into other Earth Science standards throughout the year. The 9 different rock samples will be used for a great hands on lab. They will use the various rocks to complete a visual concept map which will help guide the students to identify the unknown rock sample. Using the characteristics of the rock, the student will make observations to determine if it is an Igneous, Metamorphic, or Sedimentary Rock.

Having the 9 rock samples will give the class a chance to participate in a new lab, using their knowledge of rocks to identify them. The concept map should make the task fun and easy to complete.

Science is all about labs. The following items will help to create more labs in the class. Building the Stomp Rocket will be a great STEM project for my students on rocket design. The 4M Static Science Kit will show the amazing power of static electricity in action. The class will get to experience electrostatic tricks like bending water, making sparks, lighting up a bulb, and making salt jump. The students will get to see how gravity creates the shape of bubbles even with a variety of bubble-making frames with the 4M Bubble Science. Also they will get a chance to create an unbreakable bubble, a giant bubble, and a bubble film.
