My second grade students need supplies (samples of rocks and minerals) to have hands on learning experiences when they are studying geology.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. G.'s classroom raised $570
This project is fully funded
We are a second grade gifted and talented class. The children are extremely curious and enjoy conducting hands-on experiments.
One of Science units this year is Geology. We are suppose to be able to compare rocks by color, texture, luster, etc. The only problem is that we do not have any rocks and minerals to examine and compare. We can look at pictures on the the computer, but the children need to be able to handle the rocks and closely observe them. I am in a school that does not receive a great deal of funding, so most of the funding goes towards classroom libraries, text books, and workbooks. There is really no funding for supplies for Science experiments.
I am looking for many different rock samples for the children to explore. The children will learn more about texture, size, shape, and luster if they have the rocks in their hands to experience. The children also need books to learn about rocks and minerals and to be able to cross reference them. In addition, the students would benefit from watching a DVD about rocks and minerals. Classrooms are comprised of different types of learners and it is important to supply them will different learning experiences.
You make it possible for my students to have hands-on learning experiences. The children learn and remember what was taught when they can have different learning experiences (hands on experiments, looking through books, watching a DVD, etc). The children will truly benefit from these enhanced experiences.
