This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at the tip of Texas, bordering Mexico, where my students speak Spanglish. They face many challenges such as dyslexia, special needs, and are socioeconomically disadvantaged, but that doesn't stop them from dreaming big.
They are determined, hard-working children, willing to learn no matter their circumstances.
I teach second-grade, bilingual students who inspire me on a daily basis. These students come everyday excited to start class. They enjoy hands-on activities, crafts, group activities, and especially working with technology. They face many challenges, but they don't let these challenges take over their learning experience.
Many come without knowing English, but with their determination and support from their families, they are able to conquer everything. Many students are economically disadvantaged. However, none of those factors affect these children because they want to learn. It is very satisfying seeing all these children progress throughout the school year.
I work at a very supportive school where students come first. We are all about meeting our children's needs. Our administrators have created a safe, happy environment for everyone at our school: students, staff, teachers, and parents. I love working at the very tip of Texas where my students are very unique and wonderful.
My Project
Though times we are living right now! Everyone is going through social and emotional troubles; especially children. I have seen students being sad because lack of socialization. As a teacher, I am try to fill as many educational gaps during this time. However, my number one priority right one is their emotional well-being.
With face to face approaching, I would like to prepare our classroom with this Rocking Chair to make it as welcoming as it can be.
I believe in giving students the power to make decisions in their learning. Letting them have a flexible sitting environment allows their creativity during our STEM program to flow as oppose to sitting in a desk all day long.
My students will have the flexibility to choose between a comfortable chair, a desk, a couch, bean bags, etc. Letting them choose where they can sit and what they sit on makes a huge impact not only in their learning, but also in their behavior. In our class, we follow a classroom economy model where students, after earning money through class jobs, learn how to spend it on a bi-weekly class auction. This chair will be provide a comfortable space to perform this activity. This rocking chair will surely make them feel welcome and safe to return to school.
