Rocking Rocks and Minerals

My students need materials to learn about rocks and minerals through a hands-on approach.

My Students

Science can be very fascinating subjects for anyone especially if the students see the connection between what they are learning and how it relates to real-world concepts.

I teach in a fifth grade regular education, special education, and English Language Learner inclusion classroom.

I have students that come from many different backgrounds. By the time they get to fifth grade, some of them begin to realize that they are behind their classmates. It is my passion to change that and help all of them be successful.

My Project

I would love for my students to not just read about Rocks and Minerals, but to actually feel them, investigate each rock and mineral, compare and contrast them, and really become immersed into the world of geology! Just learning about minerals can be very boring, but with these hands-on materials, students will learn the different properties of each mineral. Then the students will be able to test these properties and identify each mineral. They will use the hardness test, the streak test with the tiles that I have requested, the light test, and much more. Thanks so much for reading this project.
