Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember how you learned to read? When you learned to read? My first graders need repeated exposure to phonological activities in order to master reading. My students have various learning modalities and these materials will assist in their learning to read.
My first grade students come from various cultural backgrounds and speak various languages at home other than English.
We have a 89% poverty level at our elementary school of 950 students. Many of my students come from crime and gang ridden neighborhoods. School provides that escape. It is their safe zone. My students have a love for school and are eager daily to learn new things. Reading provides that safe zone and knowledge!
My Project
In order for my first graders to flourish in reading, they need phonological based activities to allow them to grow as readers. My students have various learning modalities. The phonics based activity program with Cd's and the needed portable CD player will allow my students to maximize their learning. Children need repeated exposure in different ways in order for them to become readers. This program makes learning engaging and motivating. My students will be able to use this during language arts center time, free time, and writing center time. By having this program in my classroom, it will allow them the resources to become successful readers and thus providing them a strong educational foundation. Also, inspiring them to be college bound.
Through your donations, this project will give hundreds of students the opportunity to build their foundational reading skills.
It is imperative my students are afforded the opportunity of activities that will empower their reading skills and thus making them college bound students. Yes, starting as early as first grade. Have you answered the questions I posed earlier? When and how did you learn to read? Thank you for your time and/or donations, my students will truly benefit.
