My Students

My students have a big problem! They don't see how powerful math and reading can be together! My students are not able to see a correlation between learning math and reading books. To them, it is one subject or the other. I want to bridge the gap between the two subjects and spark an interest!

I teach 5th grade math and my students are very vocal, playful, and they love new types of learning.

Unfortunately, many of my students are below-level in Reading and Math. My dream is to bridge the gap of these two subjects and help my students grow in both skills. My students love listening to stories and listening can help build fluency. Listening to stories about various math skills will help spark an interest in the corresponding lessons. Having these books will provide the students a new way to think about math concepts while giving them a chance to practice reading skills.

My Project

I am requesting 20 literature books that will help introduce, enrich, and be used to reteach various math skills. The books I am requesting go along with our new interactive math textbooks. Each book is directly tied to multiple lessons in our book. The books will be used first as introductions to the lessons they correspond with, and then the books will be put at a center that the students can visit and complete follow-up activities. My students will be able to use our new books in their small groups to enrich their learning of various math concepts. These books will help the students see math concepts in a whole new, fun interactive way. The students will be able to learn math concepts while improving their reading skills.

Your donations would make a huge impact in the way my students think about math.

With your help, we can broaden the minds of the students who are going to read and listen to these books. My students will start to see that Math and Reading are important and that they can be good at both. They will learn how to think of math concepts in their everyday lives while improving their reading skills. We need to bridge the gap for our students to improve their learning and your donations would help!
