Rocking Chairs! Intentional and Purposeful for Preschool Special Education

My Project
Every student in my preschool classroom (ages 3-5) qualifies for special education services with at least 3+ developmental disabilities. My students have full range of variations in their cognitive, behavior, learning styles, and socialization. My goal is to address their unique needs including sensory preferences so they can focus on learning.
Dynamic seating options in the classroom are strategically employed to provide sensory modulation opportunities for students with diverse needs.
Studies show that the rhythmic rocking motion of a rocking chair is positively influences sensory processing and self-regulation and has been associated with reduced anxiety, increased attention span, and improved focus.
Data was collected in collaboration with our occupational therapist to affirm the positive outcomes associated with the intentional use of rocking chairs in the special education classroom.
