My Students
On a typical day, I see 150 students when classes are scheduled, and between 40-50 during flexible hours. Using the media center as a place to explore new ideas instead of being cramped in the classroom, restricted in their movements, we can make reading and learning fun.
Our school serves 300+ students in Pre-K through Fifth Grade.
With a special program that focuses on students that need behavior intervention. Our children are high poverty with 100% of the students receiving free lunch. We have many transient students, several of which leave and come back over the course of the school year.
My Project
What’s a library without a colorful carpet and rocking chair for story time? Our library currently has over-sized furniture, not fit for elementary students and drab colors. Having a carpet would brighten the media center and a rocking would bring a storytelling environment. I would have a designated story time area for my students as I read to them and as they read to each other during the multiple times the library is in use. I can teach them listening skills and storytelling skills in this area as well as how to acquire a love of reading.
Your donations will allow our school and students to get excited about coming to the library for story time and reading, reader's theater and other activities that can be incorporated with a designated reading area.
