Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Second grade is a grade that begins to require more attention to detail and longer periods of independent work time. This is very difficult for second graders, especially Autistic and Special Education students, to conform to.

My Autistic students in particular, need motion and movement. This is very difficult for the other students in the classroom to comprehend and understand. They do not understand why some children are allowed to roam around during group, independent, or work time. The students do not see it as "fair" that they are not able to wander around the room, too. My proposal asks for rocking chairs so that the students who need to move to work can sit and rock while completing their assignments.

Having the use of the rocking chairs will satisfy my Autistic and Special Education student's need to move. They will still be able to complete assignments yet get the necessary movement that they desire. Six rocking chairs are requested so that none of my students feel singled out. I am asking for six chairs so that while the Autistic and Special Education students are rocking the day away, satiating their desire to move, a couple of general education students may join them. This makes it a win win solution for ALL of my students!
