Our four first grade classes are studying plants and animals as part of the science curriculum. However, most children never get the opportunity to interact with many different live animals.
We are an urban public elementary school located in Northern California with students from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
We also have a large population of English Language Learners. Additionally, we are a California Distinguished School.
My Project
The Tree Frog Trek naturalist will bring some live reptiles and amphibians into our classrooms. The children will get to observe, touch, feel, and learn about the characteristics, adaptations, and behaviors of each specific animal. While the children will touch and feel the iguana's scaly skin, they will also watch a large dessert tortoise crawl across the room. The boys and girls will also get to pet a slithering corn snake. To conclude the presentation, the students will get a massage from a 14-foot long Burmese python!
After viewing, touching, and interacting with the live reptiles and amphibians, the children will gain additional understanding of the characteristics, behaviors, and adaptations of those animals.
Tree Frog Trek Naturalist
(The naturalist will bring various live amphibians and reptiles, such as a Pacific Tree Frog, a python, a tortoise, and an iguana to our school. The students will get to view, touch, and learn about each of the rocking reptiles and awesome amphibians. The children will also get a massage from the 14 feet long Burmese python! )
