Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Help! My students are running out of books! They have made so much progress that I don't have enough challenging books to fit their needs. My students need your help to get the books they need in order to be successful!
The students you will be donating to are a very special bunch.
My students are considered to have special needs and need to be in a self-contained special education class (12:1:1), which is a smaller environment with less distractions where I can focus on their individual needs. My class consists of students who have cognitive, emotional, social and physical delays. Their disabilities range from speech and language impaired, autism, health impairments, emotionally disturbed and learning disabled. They are very energetic and very busy! My students inspire me everyday because even though they have cognitive or health impairments they are still full of life and have beautiful and joyful spirits.
My Project
I want to get my students excited about books and spark their interest in reading. This has to start with books that motivate them to read, and also books that are on their level. My students love Science which is why these nonfiction leveled Science library sets are perfect for them! The library sets provide real world examples, hands-on activities, colorful illustrations and the books gradually increase in difficulty. This is important because books that are too hard frustrate them and books that are too easy bore them which hinders the reading process. These books will help students develop reading skills such as fluency, comprehension, phonemic awareness, as well as build confidence in their reading ability.
I am also requesting a word families activity book to boost students' abilities who are not quite ready for the Science nonfiction library.
This project is important because these books will not only allow me to scaffold their learning by being their guide but it will provide books that are "just right" for the students' reading level for independent practice.
Your help will ensure that my students will have the books they need to become rockin' readers!
