Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Spark my students' interest in reading and open their imagination to the wonderful world of exciting characters, adventure, mystery and far away places!

The students you will be donating to are a very special bunch.

My students are considered to have special needs and need to be in a self contained special education class (12:1:1), which is a smaller environment with less distractions where I can focus on their individual needs. My class consists of students who have cognitive, emotional, social and physical delays. Their disabilities range from speech and language impaired, autism, health impairments, emotionally disturbed and learning disabled. They are very energetic and very busy! My students inspire me everyday because even though they have cognitive or health impairments they are still full of life and have beautiful and joyful spirits.

My Project

I want to get my students excited about books and spark their interest in reading. This has to start with books that motivate them to read, and also books that are on their level. The "I Can Read!" series books and “Nonfiction Leveled Books” sets are perfect for my students because they provide engaging stories, colorful illustrations and gradually increase in difficulty. This is important because books that are too hard frustrate them and books that are too easy bore them which hinders the reading process. These books will help students develop reading skills such as fluency, comprehension, phonemic awareness, as well as build confidence in their reading ability.

I am requesting 3 book sets of guided reading books and also a series collection books titled “I Can Read!” books consisting of 30 books for my students.

These books will not only allow me to scaffold their learning by being their guide but it will provide books that are "just right" for the students' reading level for independent practice. Your help will ensure that my students will have the books them need to become rockin' readers!
