My Students

I currently teach 10-17-year-old young adults with a variety of intellectual, physical, and sensory impairments in our school's Severe and Profound Classroom. My students are focusing their time in school on preparing for life after school; that looks different for every student. We work with each student individually to help them communicate what their personal goals and visions for their futures are.

These students are truly the sweetest and most compassionate humans I have ever met.

We also practice cooking, cleaning, money, time, and other life skills.

My Project

Sensory Integration provides a crucial foundation for later, more complex learning and behavior. For most Children, Sensory Integration develops in the course of ordinary childhood activities. Motor planning ability is a natural outcome of this process, as is the ability to adapt to incoming sensations. But, for some children, sensory integration does not develop as efficiently as it should. When this process is disordered, a number of problems in learning, development and behavior may become evident. This rocking hammock chair will help me to incorporate sensory integration therapy into our daily routine. Sensory integration is very important in the lives of special needs students and this rocking hammock will allow my students to meet those sensory needs.
