This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students do not have as much access to books as others may have. Our library is small and limited. I want to provide a rich reading environment for these children to discover the magic of reading. I want to provide opportunities for them to explore the world and realize their potential.
This school is a city school in Alabama that is primarily minority based.
My students do not have the advantages that most other students may have. Many of these students have never been exposed to literature and they delight in reading books that excite them and pique their curiosity. They love reading time and eagerly read our books over and over until the books fall apart. .
My Project
These books will promote life-long skills that will enable these students to read for both pleasure and information. These students will be able to use skills that are vital to their academic success. As they read, they will discover new worlds and new possibilities. They will be able to use these skills in every aspect of their lives. They may make life changing decicions based on the books they read. That is my hope.
Reading is the most important subject I teach.
I want to instill in them a love of reading that will go with them when they leave me so they will have a better chance to succeed. I want them to have the necessary tools in order to be prepared for second grade and the years after that. I believe it will. We want our students to be literate in this ever changing society and to be productive citizens who will make a difference in this world. That is my hope.
